Back in Shanghai

Made it back to Shanghai this morning (7.30 am).

Life as usual here, work and work. Meeting all the friends in the evening at the Nova on the way home for an aperitif which sometimes turns out to be a whole evening.

Went to a couple of new places. In particular a French restaurant called Le Bouchon which is more like a brasserie.

Nothing much to look at but the food is very good and very traditional. The owner is full of life and I am sure I shall go again.

Also went to Napa at last. I pass it every day on my way to and from work. Quite a different place and probably the best French restaurant here so far.

The owner Philippe is really nice (despite the fact he is from Switzerland) and it is best to let them surprise you with a menu rather than to order a la carte. The same goes for the wines.

The prices are of course in another league… fortunately I was invited… However I have promised a return party there.

Thank you Sylvain and Helen for showing me both.

The time has come again. I shall be off early in the morning to meet up with Graham and son in Paris early afternoon. We are aiming to be in the gite in time for aperitif and dinner. Hopefully Bob & Bob have arrived safely today and will be doing a bit of shopping tomorrow (plenty of Ricard). Also hopefully Joerg, Acki and Andreas will not be too far behind me from Germany. Not sure sure when Chris and son are due to arrive. The only one missing will be Christian who cannot make it till Friday night.

Am really looking forward to it all.

A whole month in Europe …

June 9th

The football’s European championship started at the weekend and will go on for the next 3 weeks. So wherever you go there are TVs set up. Had a very nice dinner in the middle of town in an Italian restaurant where they were getting pretty excited about the game between Italy and Holland later in the evening (they actually lost 0-3). During dinner France played a boring game against Roumania and ended up with a 0-0 draw.

June 8th

Flew back to Europe last weekend and I shall be here for the whole month of June. There is obviously work to be done but a few highlights as well starting with the Le Mans 24h race next weekend followed by a well deserved 2 weeks holidays in France.

In the meantime I am catching up with everyone here in Germany. Had a very pleasant BBQ evening at Toto’s place, followed by an evening of football TV watching Germany beat Poland 2-0.

Fortunately the weather is very nice. Even spent the night out in a tent with the kiddies yesterday.
