Good morning Vietnam

Am sorry it is all over. A good holiday in a country I always wanted to visit and will probably return to. I have taken penty of photos and almost 2 hours of video which I shall upload in the near future. I have also quite a few related links I shall update on this page.

August 27th - Bangkok - Frankfurt - Home

Was lucky enough to get an upgrade into business class at the gate in Bangkok. A nice and welcomed surprise. Arrived in Frankfurt on time early this morning in plenty of time to catch the train back home…

August 26th - Vung Tau - Saigon - Bangkok

Unfortunately today is departure day. Had time this morning for a last walk on the beach…

and lunch before catching the hydrofoil again for the first leg of the journey…

August 25th - Vung Tau

Last full day here today… Had to pay a visit to the doctor at the local SOS International centre. I would recommend the service they offer in case medical assistance is needed (which I hope is not the case).

August 24th - Vung Tau

Long walk on empty beaches…

in order to get an appetite…

August 23rd - Vung Tau

Too hot today… Took it easy at the pool and down the beach

Found a nice little restaurant for dinner called “Ma Maison”.

August 22nd - Vung Tau

Brilliant weather. Spent most of the day at the pool which was a mistake by the feel of the sunburn…

It is a nice place and one can unserstand why this was called the “Riviera” in the old days.

August 21st - On the way Made it to Vung Tau

French Cap Saint-jacques, port, southern Vietnam. It is situated near the tip of an 11-mile- (18-kilometre-) long projection into the South China Sea, which trends southwest and partially encloses Ganh Rai Bay. The bay receives the Saigon River on the northeastern Mekong delta.

Not sure I shall have internet access there… I have…

Nice hotel, after a nice 1.5h ride in the hydrofoil from Saigon. The ride down the river is through the jungle and is again what I had in mind as far as Vietnam looked like.

August 20th - Last day in Ho Chi Minh

A nice view of the town and Saigon river from the tallest building in town (not that high really with 33 floors).

August 19th - Ho Chi Minh

Funny trees they have here…

Managed to go back to one of my favorite water hole just in time before the rain came…

Evening dinner on the river Saigon…

August 18th - Ho Chi Minh

Taking it easy day today… Just a slow stroll around town…

and evening dinner aboard a boat on the river Saigon…

August 17th - Mekong Delta

Spent the day on the Mekong Delta and a couple of islands.

Ok the water does not look too clean, but apparently it is only the large amount of sediments floating around. I would nevertheless avoid to have a swim in it.

A local fishing apparatus…

A first for me. Never saw a papaya tree before (it happens to be be one of my favorite fruit)…

August 16th - Ho Chi Minh

There is always a bit of green in the middle of this busy city…

some excellent “water holes”

August 15th - Ho Chi Minh

Spent most of the day walking around the city center.

Had to spend some time in the shade to cool down…

manged to pay a visit to the war museum. QUite disturbing…

Had a typical Vietnamese dinner in a “Hue noodles” resataurant. Pretty good and cheap at around $3 per head.

August 14th - Ho Chi Minh

Made it to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) yesterday afternoon. First impressions are that this place is buzzing, probably due to the millions of motorcycles on the road. Quite incredible.

Weekend in England

Had a good time in the UK. Nice to see so many friends.

Great to see so many  from the “Le Mans” crew

The pub was really good too.

August is here (has been for 9 days actually)

Time did fly by during the past couple of weeks. Very busy at work and very little time to do anything else. The weather has not been brilliant either.

There has been a couple of highlights nevertheless. Met a couple of work friends for a couple of drinks this week as the Maschsee “Strandbad”. Would have been perfect if the sun had been shining. First time I go there but will do it agin. Maybe spend part of the day there…

Of course there was also the yearly Maschsee Fest which finishes this week actually. Managed to go there a coupleof times. It is really worth it as usual.

oh… and of course there was the odd stop at one of the local beer garden… and relaxed shopping in my little town on Saturdays…

Plenty of things to look at in Gehrden actually:

I think I caught up with most things… Except for the fact it is Holiday time starting this evening. Off to London first thing tomorrow morning and really looking forward to see loads of you over the weekend
